Laptop fan not working after performing refresh and over heats

My Samsung series 3 laptop keeps overheating 5-10 minutes after booting up and shuts down. It only started doing this after performing a refresh on my computer with Windows 8. Any idea if it maybe be a driver it deleted or if i'm missing software?

Missing driver or software would not cause overheating. Get your laptop looked at by a repair technician, unless you know a friend or relative who knows about laptop repair.
