laptop has one jack i want to use just the mic

i have a lenovo g50 which has only one jack port . it works perfectly with the headset (the sound) .
i recently bought a separate mic with jack 3 rings . and i'm wondering if i can plug it in directly and use it . in another question : i don't want to plug the headset and the mic toghether so can i use the mic directly without a splitter ?

Hi,

If the laptop uses a combo 3.5mm port you'll definitely need a splitter in order for the microphone and headset to work together.
