Solved! Laptop keys won't function without pressing space

I've recently run into the problem that some of my laptop keys (J, N, M and 7) seem to be non-responsive when attempting to type. Usually tapping them produces no output, but then if space is pressed at the same time or directly afterward, the letter will always come up as normal.

Could this be fixed somehow without sending it in for repairs?

You didn't say what model laptop you have. Many vendors supply a diagnostic for their machine. Search on line for a diagnostic which should include a keyboard test. That will allow you to test the keyboard and see if the problem is hardware or software. I suspect you need a new keyboard, but I recommend you try the diagnostic first.
