I was wondering if this is possible and what it would take if it is
possible?

I have 2 different laptop screens available for use due to the laptops them
selves being dead. I was wondering if I could take the LCDs and turn them
into LCDs for a Desktop system. The LCDs are from a Dell Inspiron 3500 and
a Dell Inspiron 7000, both of which are 15" and appeared to be in good
shape before the systems died.

The 2 desktops that I have in mind both have vid cards with DVIs (one is a
GeForce FX 5200 128mb and the other is a GeForce FX5900 128mb).

Yes. It's possible. There are quite a few websites that detail what
must be done.

However, that said. It's costly. You could buy a nice 20" desktop
LCD for what it's going to cost you to convert a laptop LCD.

Nope, not possible. Wont work. You wont have power to drive them and no video
interface. Sell them on eBay.

The circuitry to operate an LCD from a laptop is digital. Usually parts are
proprietary and always surface mount technology (hard to solder in the field).

Very hard to do.

This is a project for an electronics engineer. It will be costly. A 19" LCD
would be nearly as cheap!

I'll buy the screen for the 7000 from you.

Email me and take out the TRASH in the address to reply.

This is a FAQ that deserves a good answer, but there isn't one. Basically,
by the time you buy all of the stuff you'd need to complete the conversion;
such as an adaptor for the LCD's display input, a power supply, some sort of
case to house it, etc., you could buy a brand new 15" (or larger!) LCD
desktop display.

Sell the LCDs on eBay and buy yourself a new desktop LCD with the proceeds.

James
