I bought an acer aspire es1-521 from argos about 6 weeks ago. It was dropped the other day and didnt stop working immediately.

Seemed fine then suddenly it became nonresponsive. I turned it off and on and now when I start up it takes a bit longer but it does start and get to login screen. Logs in fine and loads desktop but then it doesnt reapond at all. Wont open any apps, just freezes. Im using windows 10 btw. Tried aafe mode but its the same.

What does it sound like the problem is and more importantly will I have a warranty if I take it back to argos. Will they fix it? Im screwed without it for my uni work!

Thanks in advance

Hi,

The problem you're facing right now seems to have something to do with the HDD. It's the first part of your laptop that will be damaged specially if you dropped it while it's on. The only way around that problem is to replace it but according to Acer support accidental damages is not covered by their 1 year limited warranty so you'll be shouldering the cost of the repair of the laptop.

Here's Acer Limited warranty guide

Nope didnt buy extended warranty.

If I dont tell then it was dropped might they repair it? Or will it be obvious?

Finally how much am I looking at for repair? And woukd it be cheaper or better to do it myself?

they might not be able to tell unless there is a log that records events like that. can buy a new hard drive which will have at least a 2year warranty on it but you will need a windows disk to install onto that. how much data do you need to save off the old drive?
