My 2 yr old Satellite C855-1RP crashed yesterday and now won't boot?
I get the standard media check fail and no bootable device.
I can get into the bios and by HDD it states none?
I've changed the boot settings to csm as found in the forum but that does nothing.
Sometimes I get hdd/sdd password? It came pre-installed with Win8 and I don't remember it asking me for a hdd/sdd password to create on setup?
I've checked the hard drive in case it was lose but its not.
I've put a hdd from a working dell laptop in but that had the same response, not sure if compatible though.
Next I put the toshiba hdd into the dell laptop but again medial check fail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All my photos of my 9 mnth baby from birth are on the laptop so I really need to get it working.

It seems that the hard drive has failed and will have to be replaced with a new one. All hard drives fail sooner or later, and that's why precious files should be saved to a second hard drive or to optical discs.

Their is a chance of rescuing your files by connecting the drive to a working computer. Rescue what you can but don't try to use the drive any more after that.

So here's an update on what I did.
Bought a new hdd, went for the same make/model to make sure it would work.
Using an old laptop I downloaded a trail version of Win 8.
I then installed this via usb.
Next I used a couple of keygen programs to find my product licence from my motherboard as Win 8 came preinstalled.
I then activated Win 8 using my correct licence which worked perfectly.
Next I went to Toshiba's website to download so of the drivers I needed.
Glad to say that's its all working fine now.
Still can't get anything from the old hdd yet though, its been in the freezer for a few days so maybe it will work for a short time.

I have found a solution to this issue, go to F2 bios setup and navigate to advance option and scroll down to system configuration, click enter and you are gonna see boot mode, change the option to CSM instead of the default UEFI boot mode, press F10 to save and exit and hurray, your system will work fine.
