laptop pc dont boot up after a week

hello everyone. last week i repaired a laptop of a friend who broke the screen adn then i formated it. from win7 i went to win 8.1 and after a week of usage the pc is not booting into windows... is there a possibility that this is hdd error? thanks in advance!

Hey there, antreas16596.

It's quite possible for that to be the issue. Is the drive recognized in BIOS/UEFI? Try the HDD with a different computer, to see if you can get to the files and recover them. After that go ahead and run the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics tool and test the drive, to see if anything unusual pops-up.
