How much of a performance difference will I notice with these computers? I mainly play Star Wars the Old Republic, Star Trek Online, some heavily modded (100+ mods) Minecraft, and Civilization: Beyond Earth. I would like to play on high settings. Medium settings are however acceptable. I will also be using Razer Cortex to help boost performance.

It's a huge difference. The i7 6500u is a dual-core while the i7 6700HQ is a quad core. The GTX 960M would also beat the snot out of the 940M. The Dell literally has 2X the CPU and 3X the GPU power.

OK thanks. But will I notice much difference with the games I play? My sister wants the HP for the Star Wars, and my mom wants it for the DVD drive. Civilization: Beyond Earth is the newest game that I play. Either way it will be a big upgrade from my past computer.

The difference would be noticable in Civilization: Beyond Earth. At 1080P Medium the Dell will be at around 40fps, while the HP will be at 15-20fps.
