Laptop screen gone haywire.

For some unknown reason, there has suddenly appeared a one inch wide black band down the right hand side of my laptop screen and the taskbar at the bottom has almost disappeared off screen.
is this something I have done or is it a sign that something more serious is happening please?

Whats your GPU? I have seen Nvidia GPUs do this although ATi also. what's you laptop and what are the specs?

Test with an external monitor. If all is good then I'd guess it's a problem with the screen if it's there on the external one then it's GPU related. If you have a warranty, call Acer about this.

Sounds like the image is not aligned. Reinstall/update the Intel HD graphics driver. If that doesn't work, try crinkdude's suggestion.
