laptop screen is black

When I turn on my laptop,the screen stays black and the only lights on are the power and charge light.How can I fix this?

is it booting up? if you shine a light on the screen can you see the desktop?

Can you connect an external monitor to the laptop? If so, does that work? You might need to push a button on your laptop to switch from laptop screen to external screen (read the manual on how to).
If both screens don't show anything, your VGA chip might be dead. Happens frequently with laptops, because they get to hot.

Thank you for replying!I shined a light on the screen but saw no desktop.Also,when I turn it on the fan runs for 2-3 seconds then stops.

It might be the power supply. I just had one die that acted similar

no im talking about the brick that plugs into the wall. you can buy new ones. what brand and model is the laptop?

what color is the charge light?

The charge light is blue.The The light on the box that plugs in to the wall is green.

did you install any new hardware? Try unplugging remove battery hold power button down for 10 seconds that will drain any stored power then hook it back up and try turning it on again.

Charge light stays on. Don't think its the power supply. Try to connect an external monitor.

I haven't installed any new hardware and I unplugged the computer,removed battery,and pushed the power button.Nothing!Just figuring out how to hook up to my TV.lol Truth!

I'm getting nothing on the TV.No lights come up on the computer.Seems like there's no power,but the power light is on.

You must check first your adapter with a voltmeter, it should give 19 volts for the laptop. After if the adapter is good we can speculate what component is defective.
