I have an hp dv7 - 3085 dx laptop. Specs:

TYPE
Desktop replacement
SCREEN SIZE
17 inches
SCREEN RESOLUTION
1600 x 900

Windows (7)

CPU FAMILY
Core i7 720QM / 1.6 GHz

System RAM
6 GB

Hard drive:
500 GB

Nvidia Geforce GT 230m

Laptop runs over 70 °C or 158 °F at normal and jumps to over 80 - 100 °C (176 - 212 °F) whenever doing things as watching video. As I am typing this the temperature is at 85 °C (15 °F)

it is elevated so that the vents are clear and i have a small fan always pointed at it.

I have a monitor and a wireless keyboard and mouse attached. (refer to the picture attached)

I do not understand why it is giving such heating problems.

After my semester is finished I will do a fresh install of windows in an attempt to alleviate the problem

I have used compressed air to clear the vents out from dust. It should be noted that this was done from the outside and I havent opened the laptop and done any inside cleaning yet.

Please share any advice or explanation on this problem.
