Laptop that goods for music production

Hi all, Im hoping someone can help me. We all no christmas is on the door step and my husband has asked for a laptop for christmas that will be suitable for music production. Now I am on a budget so I no im not going to be able to get the best on the market that has everything going for it but its a start. Iv had a little look and as I no nothing about computers/laptops and nothing about music producing, all advice is greatly appreciated. HP ProBook is one that seems to keep popping up?

By music production do you also mean recording instruments? I would recommend an external music soundcard in that case, sold in istrument stores (haven't seen in a PC-shop). External, USB, couple of inputs for mic, guitar, midi-keyboard, phantom power 48v( for the mic).

Either way, a laptop with Intel i5 or i7 would be my recommendation. Music programs love a strong CPU. Not sure on memory amount but 4-8 gigabytes at least. Rest of the components arent that important, as long as harddisk is big enough for his music files. And that depends on what format he saves them in, how many per song etc. How many tracks per song, does he save in .wav etc. 500 gig harddrive should last a good while.
