HI, So my current laptop has gotten very old it's an acer aspire 5534 with a very slow dual core processor at whopping 1.2 ghz. It's been having trouble even playing minecraft, on absolute lowest settings which is ridiculous, plus the cpu fan has stopped working, this laptop gets seriosusy hot! So i'm looking for a new laptop just to do some simple gaming and homework, such as stalker which i can play now, and minecraft, but if you can ween in call of duty 5 world at war my favorite game, then please tell me which laptop would be able to play it moderately with no problems. would this do the job, i know graphics are essential but i saw this has an i5. I realllly dont want to go 400 and would like to stay around three hundred is this possible?

I strongly despise windows 8, but if theres a laptop with it and can support transferring to windows 7 then i shall do it, since i still have my windows 7 ultimate disk.

Edit: or how about this???

You'll be able to play Minecraft and basic games with an Intel HD 3000, but don't expect anything too exciting. The older CoD games (think pre-Black Ops) should be playable at low-to-mid settings, but nothing all that pretty. A $400 laptop is poorly suited to do much gaming and a $300 laptop would be even rougher.

I figured that much, what about my second choice with 7640g graphics i saw on youtube playing with the same specs cod 5 at really descent frame rates? I even saw one or two battlefield 3 videos lol and they claimed to be getting at low to medium setting 40 fps.
The call of duty i will be playing will be 100% zombies if that changes anything.

A lot of it will come down to the game. The 7640g GPU will generally outperform the HD 3000, but it'll also generally be attached to a weaker processor! One thing Minecraft does is eat up the CPU power.

True it does depend to each game, i think minecraft not only eats your cpu but ram as well, possible 8gb expansion is what im seeing. It'd be pretty funny situation yeah i can run cod 5 fine, but struggles with minecraft. i think persoanlly in general an i5 is overpowered if your not going to have any better graphics. Atleast with the second it has a better balance between gpu and cpu? Persoanlly would you think that it would have a problem? Even if i lowered the settings a bit.

Honestly, as long as you go in there with reasonable expectations that these are budget laptops that will give you budget gaming performance, you should be fine. The issue is when people think they're going to play Crysis 3 on their budget laptop (yes, these people exist!). I'd probably be more inclined to the Sandy Bridge build.

Haha i used to be one of those people that just didnt understand why, but as years past i really understood that honestly computers are really freeking complicated. So if youre going to want anything done you have to have money. This is just a laptop that when i go to college ill have something during my breaks to show my friends some stuff, if i really get into things i go console. Just because im not a millionaire...yet.

will this have noticeably better gaming for 500 rather then 400? or will it be miniscule?

If you could see anything better or more worth while on the sight for the money PLEASE dont hesitate to ask sorry i had family over took me so long to answer.

If you want to stick close to your original budget, then consider the following Lenovo G580 laptops for $430 (500GB Hard drive) or $400 (320GB Hard drive). They both have the same Ivy Bridge core i3 CPU @ 2.5GHz and the Intel HD 4000 (about 35% more powerful on average than the HD 3000). Intel CPUs are more powerful than what AMD has to offer.

The Intel HD 4000 is slower than the Radeon HD 7640D and HD 7660D though.
