Ok so, I was putting in a Bluetooth card and the screw slipped, saw a tiny spark and the computer shut off(Stupid me for having it on I know) Did I fry the motherboard? Or did a safety thing kick in?
Hi, probably you burned something on the motherboard, the only safety circuit you have in a laptop are fuses. What is the make and model of your laptop?

I have a Gateway M-6846
I took it apart and found no fuses or burn marks
Also, where it sparked, next to the chip it hit, on the mb it says something about pci
Hi, you have two fuses on the motherboard, they are protecting the 5 volts for the output ports. Did you try powering with just the battery and just the adapter?

Yes. About the fuses. What do they look like and where r they? R they replaceable??
The fuses are for the VGA port and the HDMI port if you have one, they protect the 5 volts rail for a short-circuit on those ports.
If one of them is burned you still will have the 5 volts on the rail, but one port will not function.
Can you measure voltages on the motherboard?

I cant. But what would be stopping the computer from powering on? did I fry the mb??
You have definitely short-circuit something on the motherboard, the last test you could do, take out the battery and unplug the adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, connect the adapter and try booting.

Actually tried that first. Re tried and still nothing. Not even a light...
Sorry to tell you that, you will need a new motherboard or be repaired from a technician.
Ok I haven't got around to getting a new mb. But I tried the laptop again and now the battery is charging and the power light blinks when pressing the power button. Just wondering if I still need to get a new one?
