Hi , This is my first post on Toms Hardware, that i can thrust the site in giving me the best suggestion in buying a laptop,

I am from India and want to take a gaming laptop and researched, but ended up with lots of confusion.

Basically I am confused on 2 things

First is Video card,
Second Brand,

I am unable to decide which one will give best performance whether ATI RAEdon 5730 or Nvidea versions for a budget of less than 1000$ for whole laptop?

Second: which brand is the best ?
Asus
Lenova,
Dell,
Sony.

and also i am worrying about these things too.

good battery backup (atleast 3 hrs) long life of the lappy,
low power consumption
less weight
and minimum heating of the laptop while playing games

generic requirements
i5 (540M) processor
4GB RAM - DDR3
320GB Hard disc, e.t.c..,

please suggest if there are some more best brands that i can have.


1. lenovo IdeaPad Y560(0646-2EU) 15.6" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit NoteBook.
2. ASUS N61JQ-X1 16" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit NoteBook.
3. ASUS n61jq-002v

Its going to be hard to find a decent gaming laptop for under a thousand dollars unless you go with a refurbished unit. But again, this is just my option as a laptop distributer.

Hello and welcome to the forums
HD 5730M is a good mid-range card for gaming, between your choices,the 2 ASUS models will give you lower battery life than the Lenovo one, so go with the Lenovo model.

Hi, but in india, i don't have option to buy a i7 laptop

can i go with this below laptop

Lenovo Y560 59-040352 (i5-450M + ATI RAedon 5730)

please can anyone help me, are their any issues with this laptop
it costs me about Rs55000
i.e..,1100$

Like i said,that's a great notebook and can handle games fine on medium(or high,if you lower the resolution)

the i5-450 is a solid processor, and gaming performance difference when compared to the i7 with the same hardware is going to be minimal.

Oh, and all of those brands are good. IMO sony is going to be a bit more high end oriented (with a price to match typically). Asus is a good general brand and lenovo tends to be business oriented. Lastly, Dell is a good consumer brand too with more customization options than other brands (although some people seem to really be distrustful of dell, probably because of bad experiences, but i personally trust them)
