LCD TV - Indian brand (Onida) - No picture but has sound

I have a 32 inch LCD TV of an indian brand named Onida. OSD menus appear correctly and blue screen appears in the case of no signal, but when I connect to an AV source, I can faintly see moving pictures with the screen entirely black. Sound is fine. What component might be causing this and how should I go troubleshooting it?

sounds like the backlight has gone, can you see the picture better with a torch facing the screen?

I have not tried this but since the on-screen display (OSD) menus (picture & sound settings) are appearing clearly and also the no signal screen appears as before, can it be the backlights? I would assume the menus also wont appear if the backlights are gone, right?
