Library location for MSReader

I can't seems to find the Library location for MSReader, is there a way
to set it to a new location instead of the default location(which I
still don't know where it is). Secondly, if I acqurire a new e-books,
chm help file, or any generic files such as Word, text file, can I just
put those files under Library directory for MSReader to recognize it?
Third, does MSReader give us option for searching certain keyword from
a) all the books under Library, b)a few books from the Library, c) from
one book?

Thanks

It sees MSReader format ebooks in your "\My Documents" folders and
subfolders. Make yourself for example an "ebooks" folder under "My
Documents", MSReader will find the books there.

See above, unless for some reason you need your books outside the "My
Documents" tree, you don't need to change anything.

MSReader reads MSReader format (.lit) ebooks only, you need other readers
for other ebook formats.

As far as I know, you can only search within the currently open book.

More clarification details.

The "concept" is to put books in your PC's "sync folder" so that when
you sync, they will be automatically copied to the pc with no action on
your part.

You can also put books on a memory card, preferably by using a card
reader... for example in the storage card's "My Documents" folder.

MSReader actually doesn't follow the MS "My Documents" rules for the
PocketPC... unless something has changed with the newer versions,
MSReader will find .lit and audible content files anywhere on any
storage device... and that also explains why it sometimes takes so long
for MSReader to open if you happen to have a large memory card that is
near full.

It seems that I can put the .LIT files anywhere and they are found.
However, when they are on the storage card I can read a bit and then I get
the dreaded message that whatever I'm reading cannot be read anymore. So,
placing the files in the PPC's memory alleviates this problem.
In reading that many users have this same problem on their memory cards I
presume it is a problem within MS PPC Reader ... right?

how big is the file that gives you the error message?

how much memory do you have available?

start/settings/system/memory

how are you copying your files to the memory card?

If you are using activesync, get a card reader, open the card icon in
your pc's file explorer, rightclick/properties/tools/check...

Then, if everything is ok, use the card reader to copy the file from the
pc to the card.

Beverly,
If the OP is using 2003SE as I do, I have tried everything to make the
reader work from files on a memory card and been unsuccessful. I finally
gave up and keep the books I am reading in main memory. Works great unless I
do a soft reset. Then it forgets the page number or that I have even opened
the book.
Oh well.

>> keep files in main memory <<

The more you use ppc's the more the limits of ram will rub on you...
even with the newer higher ram capacities.

reader content (lit and audible) is sizable, so the inability to put
them on a memory card would be a major issue for me, and, hence, I am
trying to determine (long distance) what's going on in this and similar
cases... especially since accessing reader content off of cards has not
been a problem for me with three ppc's.

Reader puts chunks of content into program memory when a file is loaded,
so, limited program memory in ram along with file size would be a major
problem... when you get toward the end of a large file, things can be
glacially slow... for example, your last read was on chapter 79 of a 80
chapter book and you have done a soft reset since chapter 79.

Also, many newcomers don't know that there is a activesync filesize
transfer glitch that catches users when they begin transferring large
files via an activesync connection, potentialy creating a file with a
good header, but la-la land at the other end.

Jus the facts mam... and I'll keep plugging away at the problem.

It might also be related to the brand or type of memory card. Some
cards are terribly slow and Reader might run into a timeout.

Hmm
I have an small cf card. Maybe I'll try that in place of the sd to test. But
I had no problem on this unit (E800) with 2003 or my Axim with 2002. Also,
Microsoft states that if you experience the warning message (which I did
every 50 pages or so) to keep the ebook in main memory.
Its just that reading books with 2003SE on this 480x640 screen is so much
better.

The files are of various size but mostly larger than 800kb.

It doesn't seem to matter how much of my 64MB memory is available, program
will not work correctly.

Copying files via cardreader.

Some have said that it may make a difference with what brand/speed card but
I've tried several and it doesn't make a difference. Card right now is
Kingston 512MB

Am running Windows Mobile 2003SE V4.21.1088 ... Intel(R) PXA270

Could I impose on someone who is experiencing this problem to check
available memory;

before starting ms reader
after ms reader is loaded but before title is selected
after the title is loaded and when the load stops (if possible)

TIA,

Addtional questions;

are the files that fail to load all DRM5 files?

If so, do non DRM5 files of similar size load off the memory card?

Beverly,
The problem is not that the files fail to load (DRM or non DRM) but that
they fail regularly during reading with the message "Microsoft Reader is no
longer able to access this eBook" and a restart of the reader is necessary
to continue.
See
http://www.microsoft.com/reader/info/support/faq/ppc.asp#nolonger
My experience is this is a problem with 2003SE only and the solution is to
have the book file in main memory.

That is my experience also ... solution is having the book in main memory.
However, MS Reader does not work correctly if it is necessary to have the
book in main memory. The entire idea behind cards is to free up your main
memory. So, I use Convert Lit to convert books to another format, put them
on the card and have them work correctly. Seems to me if other reader
programs can work reading books from a card that MS should be able to fix
their program so it can too.
