Linux and anti-virus (security options)

Hi folks,

I'm new to Linux and was wondering what anti-virus software/options you can recommend? (Previously I've been using Avast in Windows).

Are there any good options for blocking viruses etc, and also any software for scanning and removal of viruses/spyware (e.g. a rootkit scanner)?

Is there a good firewall you can recommend?

Also, is there any recommended software for blocking malicious websites?

We had an issue recently where I think Firefox (in Linux) was corrupted/infected as new windows started popping up with ads etc. So it would be good to stop this in the future (of course with more careful browsing behaviour alongside anti-virus etc).

Any assistance is much appreciated!

You don't really need a AV for Linux at least I have never needed one and I have been using Mint since it came out.

If you feel safer with one Comodo, Sophos and Clam all have free software that work well.
