Hi to all,
I have a mind puzzle. I want to broadcast live stream video from my Canon 70D using my latptop.
I have read around that a hdmi-sdi converter is required. Now, I have found this converter: http://www.amazon.com/Excelvan-MINI-HDMI-Converter-Theater/dp/B00ID4BVD0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_23_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=41CZJSl%2BwEL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=06ZHNQDZ4K0GKKDY0V5R
It is much cheaper than black magic mini-converters. The big problem is that it does not have a usb port to plug it into my laptop. So I cannot really use it, unless you can link me to online stores selling "sdi to usb" cables. So, I have thought about the following alternative ways:
1) This hdmi-sdi converter has a mini-usb power port: http://www.amazon.it/dp/B00DHKCZ26/ref=asc_df_B00DHKCZ2630646726?smid=A11IL2PNWYJU7H&tag=kelkooit-ce-21&linkCode=df0&creative=23422&creativeASIN=B00DHKCZ26&ascsubtag=dc1-kls-prod-srv-02.prod.dc1.kelkoo.net_1450015811140_1789471
I am wandering if I could use the usb port to convey the sdi signal to my laptop.
2) I have found this hdmi-vga converter that I could use it to connect my camera directly to my laptop: http://www.amazon.it/dp/B017VYYQ34/ref=asc_df_B017VYYQ3430545034?smid=AQYHPY0BKWKJN&tag=kelkooit-ce-mp-21&linkCode=df0&creative=23426&creativeASIN=B017VYYQ34&ascsubtag=dc1-kls-prod-srv-02.prod.dc1.kelkoo.net_1450016384160_1792498
I am wandering if a hdmi-vga conversion would do as much as a hdmi-sdi conversion.
I would be grateful if anyone could kindly tell me if any of the two alternatives I mentioned above would make the live stream work or help me to find other inexpensive solutions.
Cheers
Stefano

Do not try this unless:
1) Your streams are less than 15min long
2) You don't mind destroying your camera after a few months of use

Photo cameras were never meant to run continuously, and you WILL cause irreversible damage with extended video use. If you need to have it in use for extended time, you need something meant for video. There are plenty of cheap camcorders that have live-stream capabilities.

True, there are certainly other options. But, DSLRs are being used to shoot feature films, so I don't think there is much to worry about in regard to extended use. DSLRs are arguably video devices that also take pictures. Just placing it on the table for consideration.

Indeed SLRs are used in films, but only as disposable B cameras. And more than that, films NEVER have long scenes, even ones like Birdman. Usually a film scene is <5min, more than short enough to avoid too much heat.
