Hi there guys. I am after a new laptop that will need to withstand car workshop use. I cant afford the toughbooks etc so just after a well built entry level notebook that hand handle be taken from car to car for diagnostic purposes. Any recommendations?

To be more specific, they are referring to most of the Lenovo ThinkPad series laptop which meets the US Dept of Defense's MIL-SPEC standards for equipment operation in field and in harsh environments. The least expensive ThinkPad series that have been designed to meet the MIL-SPEC requirements is the ThinkPad L. The ThinkPad E is Lenovo's least expensive business laptop, but it does not meet the MIL-SPEC requirements.

Small, and relatively lightweight. The price in the review is incorrect, though (there was a cheaper version with much crappier CPU). Built to MIL-SPEC, according to Lenovo. Discontinued, but still available. I really like mine. The display could be better, but for the price, it is tolerable. Comes with Windows 7 installed.

Can be had cheaper on ebay. Just make sure it has the AMD A4-5000 APU.

Maybe a bad suggestion, then. I know nothing about automotive diagnostic software.
