Hi
I am helping a friend to find professional laptop. My PC knowledge is not applicable in this situation, so I am here.

This is the questionnaire.

1. What is your budget?

around $4.000 USD

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

A 17-19 inch screen would be great to see all the details on the programs I’ll be running.

3. What screen resolution do you want?

4k. Touch screen is not necessary, but it is a plus.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

I need a portable laptop. Hopefully not too heavy if possible.

5. How much battery life do you need?

I would be fine with 5 hours of battery life since I am often around outlets. I would not carry an extra battery.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

No gaming.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)

CAD, SolidWorks, Matlab, Mathematica, Simulink, and Photo/Video editing software (not sure which yet).

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?

1TB or above.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

Doesn't know

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?

At least five years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

Bluray ROM/Writer, external USB is OK.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

I have only owned a Toshiba, EEE Pc, HP, and Dell laptops. Mainly used them to watch movies, use social media and for Office (P.P., Word, Excel, etc.), nothing too demanding. I would like to purchase a reliable and portable laptop that I can use for many years to come.

13. What country do you live in?

USA

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

If Custom computer builder is recommended - it is OK as long as reliability and durability is good.

It doesn't have to be a Dell or HP only.

That is a beast gaming laptop, but looking into prerequisites like 4K display or possibly low battery life - it is not so much a workstation laptop, more a mobile PC thing http://www.pcgamer.com/msi-gt80-titan-sli-001-gaming-notebook-review/

Thanks, but it is not what I am looking for. I need workstation laptop for heavy Mathlab and Mathematica and CAD use, video power should be NVIDIA Quadro M4000M or M5000M

Example, something like this http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=cap6800w7p203&model_id=precision-m6800-workstation&c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04

Or like this

https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1234451

Or this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152976

And this will eat $4K for appetizer http://www.xicomputer.com/products/Configure_prof.asp?model=PowerGoIntelXT

You got the idea.

I wish it was that easy.
