I'm looking for a headset that has the following:
-has to have 7.1 surround sound
-has to have a microphone
-sound source CANNOT be from USB (I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series that I would like to use)
-will be used only for the PC, so the sound and microphone have to work on the PC

Here are my preferences:
-a wired solution (feel free to post wireless headsets too, just prefer wired because interference is never an issue with wired)
-something that's sturdy and will last years, the longer the better
-something with quality sound, would be great if the sound was top notch through out the entirety of its range

I'll spend upwards of $300, possible a tad more, so it should be enough to pay for a headset that has great construction and sound quality.

Personally I don't think 7.1 is needed in a surround sound headset. Having said that I use Turtle Beach EarForce headsets and they sound great and are pretty robust. I have own them for over 2 years and have accidentally knocked them off my desk numerous times and still work great.

Here's a link for Turtle Beach: http://www.turtlebeach.com/products.aspx#dnn_ctr583_HtmlModule_lblContent

Tritton headsets get good reviews also but I have never used them.

Happy gaming, the Prisoner.

I actually made a plunder posting this. After posting this I did some research and discovered, there in fact are no true 7.1 surround sound headsets currently on the market. Not any that I can find at least. All the ones that claim 7.1 are actually plain stereo headphones which mix 7.1 signals to give the illusion of surround sound. I did spot some true 5.1 headsets from Tritton and Turtle Beach while looking around.

Razer will be releasing a true 7.1 headset, hopefully within a month or two. For those that are interested, they will be offering free shipping, a free shirt and Razer flask if you opt into the notify list and order the headset once it's available. http://www.razerzone.com/tiamat/en

I think I'll wait for a few more weeks, if they don't get those headsets in stock, I'll probably pick one of the true 5.1 headsets from Tritton or Turtle Beach.
