Hey Guys

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a laptop able to run a game like dota 2 at decent settings. Since next year I will be investing in a real heavy duty machine I am only willing to spend 800$ or less on this rig. I have no preference on screen size weight color battery life etc. it simply needs to be able to run the game well.

Honestly $800 is sort of on the boundaries as far as gaming laptops go. if you want to rigidly keep in line with your budget, then this is the best option: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V3-572G-587W-15-6-Inch-Platinum/dp/B00K81O3PY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406286640&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+840M
you won't find anything better under $800 and quite frankly for $600 it really is an absolute steal.
HOWEVER
if you were to up your budget by a mere $50, then you can afford to get this: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V3-772G-5413-17-3-Inch-Sophisticated/dp/B00K2O4S0W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406286573&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+850M

this laptop gets a 1080p screen and a significant upgrade to the GPU that will run most games at 1080p smoothly - it will have trouble maxing the top 30% of games at 1080p, but for casual games there's no reason why this machine cannot max it out. IMO I would save up another $50, it really is worth it.
