Apple is anti-competitive and anti-innovative company that steals ideas from other companies and puts their name on it ie: iphone. Then they claim they invented it. Apple lies, cheats, and steals their products from everyone else.

Apple is the most arrogant crack head company on the planet. I say crack head because crack heads will lie to your face even when the truth is right in front of them.

[citation][nom]Herbert_HA[/nom]My god, if you think MS Office is "the killer app" of Windows, I feel sorry for you...[/citation]

Explain why you use Microsoft Office and install Microsoft Windows on an Apple Mac again?

@Herbert_HA: as far as I was aware "Antitrust" is a turm for anti-competition. it has nothing to do with market share or whether you have a monopoly or not, even though most of the dumbass antitrust commissions seem to think thats what it is. having a monopoly generally means no competition, which usually means the company that has the monopoly must be engaging in anti competitive practice. but it DOES NOT mean that companies that don't have massive market share aren't engaging in anti competitive practices too!

and for the love of God, we aren't bitching cause we can't afford a Mac, many of us in the long run with our constantly upgraded gaming rigs would spend more than a mac user would spend on a mac. macs just don't offer the same VALUE.

I want a hackintosh so I can develop for iphone. I would be willing to pay for OSX if i could install it on my PC, but getting a whole new computer just seems like a waist.

[citation][nom]Herbert_HA[/nom]Yeah, that's the reality for most people, the same way most of us won't buy a Ferrari. After all, it's just an overpriced car! If you really want one, you can save and buy one, right? The point is, you won't go to their factory, demand they sell their engine to you at a fair price so you can install it in a VW Beatle and have a fast car, just like a Ferrari.[/citation]

I think you are missing the point here. You can buy a Ferrari engine at a fair price. Ferrari will sell you a 1000hp engine so long as you pay for it. The problem is Apples are not doing this, it would be like purchasing a ford 302 V8 for the price of the Ferrari H12 or v12.

[citation][nom]Herbert_HA[/nom]My god, if you think MS Office is "the killer app" of Windows, I feel sorry for you...[/citation]

Never said it was, nor was it implied. It is the Microsoft's flagship product. They sell more copies of Office than any piece of software they have. Cutting out Office from installs on Apple PCs will not hurt Microsoft at all. It will really piss off Apple fanboys who use it.

You can install OXS on most system. I have installed it on a Dell Optiplex GX280, Lattitude D830C, D630C as well as two custom rigs. Give it a try. It is easier than you would think. Only one is still running OSX now, wiped them out and put Win 7 on them. OSX did not offer anything that I cannot get on a Linux distro.

My gaming rig started off over $3000. No $3000 Mac could come close in performance to it either.

What ever happened to their BSD agreement?
Do they actually have the legal right to do this?

I honestly think they should just increase the price of the OS and let people buy it. May as well make a profit somehow.

I hope they win they lawsuit, and then find themselves completely without orders as Dell starts selling $300 netbooks with Leopard instealled!

I have never seen so many Mac haters who are crying about not being able to legaly use Apple's OS on thier hardware. NO one makes you cry babies buy Apple's products....you have windows, lunix. So what you wont pay the "Apple Tax"....I dont dont think Apple gives a damn one way or another. The customer base Apple has is strong enough to sustain them. Hell, in the late 80's thru early 90's Apples Fans saved then from death. So all you folks complaining about Apple need to move on.

Sure, we all own systems that beat out what Apple can give us for way more money than we spent. Yep I know that. Do I think it's a bit silly that Apple charges so much? Yep I do too. But you know Sun charges a whole lot for their systems too, And those are intel based rigs as well!

BLA BLA BLA

You buy the Mac OS software, it's for a mac, because that's the way Apple designed it. Noone cared when Apple was running on PowerPC systems, which by the way SUCK compared to intel x86(64) systems.

God! What would you find in a hackintosh that you couldn't find in Windows 7?

Like I said; if you're a simple-minded dolt, who can and wants to afford the whole "Apple experiance", (for all its worth), go ahead and do it! If you don't want to spend the money, or you don't like the hardware, for pete's sake stop bitching about it! Go out and buy yourself some dual-Xeon x5500 series thingy and gloat about how uber you are!

Oh and as for the dork that won the legal right to re-sell a peice of software with the original license, that was a "retail" "full install" peice of software. - ALL Apple software sold in stores are labeld, and sold as upgrades, with specific system restrictions clearly marked on the package and the EULA.

I'm not arguing here because I like Apple, I'm arguing here because it's a company's right to keep and protect it's IP from the likes of low-life scum bags who want in on a company's hard work and sacrafice. And if you don't think OSX was not hard work and sacrafice, go talk to an Apple software engineer, talk to one that's been layed off because of the resession, ask how they are getting on, ask them how their family is doing. Ask them how their job search is going.

You guys make me sick. So righteous in your search for "competitve choices" even though 99.99999999999999999999% of you guys would not even bother installing and Apple software, on your uber-cool gaming rigs. You'd think that was too lame, and you'd trow down your quad-boot options for Windows XP, Windows 7, Some flavor of Linux, and god knows what else. But not Apple, because we, the type of people who come to tom's hardware, don't like shit from Apple. Effing hipocrates. Shut up now. You all make me sick.

Didn't this exact same thing happen to IBM, others could produce the machine but could not get the bios to work. Then it was the real attack of the clones when the bios was cloned making way for all the affordable pc's we all use today.

"all this has happened before, all this will happen again" to turn a phrase.

Like someone said before, there is nothing a Linux distro doesn't offer that OSX does. In fact they are both Unix based so they share a lot of similar features. Programming in OSX is quite similar to programming in Linux but I like Linux a lot more. It offers a lot more functionality to me, it's completely open-sourced, there is more documentation, more robust, can be installed on any machine, it is also free. Did I mention that Linux is free and open-sourced.

Whatever would give psystar the right to violate the license under which apple sells their software.

If apple only wants to sell osx with macs let them, they developed it, it's theirs.

Let psystar develop their own OS or sell windows pc's since MS is fine with that, or install some linux variant on ther pc's.

And if you don't want to pay "apple tax" (although i'd bet all the people shouting about it would be hard pressed to find an all-in-one PC with an IPS screen and the same build quality for the price of an iMac, same goes for laptops that don't just have the same specs but also the same build quality and battery life) just don't pay it.

Buy a PC, run Windows or Linux (both as good as OSX in my opinion) and stop whining, if you want to run OSX buy a Mac and don't cry about it being too expensive 'cause it isn't!

[citation][nom]Zoki[/nom]amabhy; Last qauter, Apple has sold over 3 million Macs. In a recession.Psystar, the company is selling Apple's OS - without Apples permission. And making money. Psystar has no standing or any legitimate/legal grounds. Apple does not want to sell you their OS - they make the software and sell the hardware with it. That is what they do, and sell. They don't want to sell you their OS without its hardware. Why is that so hard for people to understand? And, Apple has every right - legally - to do what they are doing. It is their product, they have designed, created and produced it. And it is their property, not yours or Psystars. Also, when you purchase an OS "upgrade" from Apple, you are licensing that upgrade. You do not own any part of the OS, even when you purchase it - read the EULA. Read the EULA, you will notice that it states that the OS you licensed is to be used for Apple approved hardware. Psystar is breaking that EULA, and the law.Apple created the OS to run its own hardware, and not yours. Deal with it, or don't use any Apple products.[/citation]

Actually, based on the course of action taken against MS, Psystar could in fact win if they play their cards right.

Why is it that MS now has to bundle other companies web browsers with their own OS because other companies were crying about anti-trust and monopolies from MS (not sure if the ruling is over yet). Oh but it is ok for Apple to engage in such "anti-trust" practices and not let other companies sell their OS with other hardware.

phystar should ahve sold the pcs as mac os compatible, and tell customer sto buyt he macos and instlal themselves, that way its the customers fault

[citation][nom]pocketdrummer[/nom]Christ, just let people make hardware for OSX already. It was this restrictive business practice that lost Apple's war on Microsoft in the first place.Had it not been for the iPod, Apple would still be an afterthought.[/citation]

AMEN in Apple hadn't been closed system from day one , they might have actually seen their co,mps expand beyound just buisness funtion.

just think if apple had played their cards right they could ahve been getting tons of gamer buisness right now , but nope they dropped the bal back at teh start ,adn they stilkl enver quite figured out where it rolled to , so today they hold next to nothign in the pc gmae market

Honestly, I don't care how user friendly OSX is or how low number of malwares for apple out there. Heck why would I even care when it only has meager software collection. If I were to buy one, that would be because of their built. Yesterday I was at bestbuy and comparing laptops and I found macbook pro frame to be sturdy and robust. It felt solid in your hand. The only gripe I had was, it's low spec. I could get sony vaio with blueray drive for the same price.
