Hey there guys. I was interested to buy a new laptop and want to buy the MacBook Pro 13" Retina. I've always been a windows user and never owned a Mac before so I was a little worried about the usability of the system. I know you can install Windows on a Mac but was wondering whether it would be stable enough for prolonged usage(some people reported problems with trackpad drivers when using Parallels virtual machine to run Windows). I want to know If anyone is currently using MacBook Pro 13" Retina and had any problems with running Windows from any virtual machine. Thanks

Haven't seen/heard much recently but I can say that when I was still fixing Macs in a shop the airs that came in were invariably in for overheating issues (or they got run over). The i3 would very likely not run into this problem though.

I've never had an issue with my MBP and parallels. MBP has been rated many years in a row as the best Windows laptop available on the market.

Yes, it runs Windows better than any other laptop on the market.

Good to know. So in comparison to a Surface Pro 3 for a computer science student such as me what would you reccomend? I mainly use my laptop for web browsing/listening to music/editing word/visio documents/watching movies etc.

If that's all you need it to do then it's purely a matter of budget. Do you want to spend 1300+ dollars on the MBP or potentially save half that and buy a Surface Pro? I would usually recommend a mac over a pc when it comes to laptops any day, but the Surface is actually a pretty slick device and would suit your needs well.

Last question. Since my budget is around £700-750 would you recommend the Macbook Air 13 over the Surface Pro 3? It's just that they are similar in many ways but different in many others so it's a very difficult choice.

I'm not a fan of the air, I think I would go for the Surface between those two. Though at the same time the air is wicked nice for frequent transport because of its (lack of) weight.

Are you aware of any heat issues with the i5/i7 models? I've heard that they overheat when pushed too far,fan kicks in and they throttle down to 800 MHz causing the magnesium back panel to heat up and noise is generated from the spinning fan. Should I go for the i3 model? I read reviews from users saying that they didn't experience heat issues with the i3 model.
