I bought this laptop but i dont know if its worth keeping, i wanna play the latest games on a high setting but dont know alot about what specs/components to have for pc gaming. specs are as follows from systemrequirementslab.com

Laptops are not very upgradeable. If can return it then return it and get a different one such as an asus ROG with a 970m or 980m or some other laptop with either of those gpus. Also consider building your own desktop, its pretty fun.

all you can do on old laptops are to upgrade ram and hdd to ssd if possible
 
Some laptops are upgradeable. I don't think yours is, however. The 840M is a mid range graphics chip that will play most modern games on medium settings, some maybe on high settings. The link Lare111 posted is a good resource for getting an idea of what your laptop will be capable of (your experience may vary).
