what is sad is that the government tells you you should secure your wifi, but whats the point? all you have to do is use the connection and someone can steal the packets and brake the wireless key. If its not out for newer standerds, it is only a matter of time.
pure and simple wireless is insecure, WEP key is a joke. If you want better security, mask your IP and impliment MAC address filtering to only allow YOUR hardware to connect.
although security exist, and a wep key helps to keep the information safe, I do not consider it as the best first step in securing my wireless. If any person was determend enough they can and will brake in.
It is unfortionate that this couple had to endure such an event, and it is more unnerving hearing how the police force is able to get warents without following there procedures. It is already well known that WEP can be broken into, it is also well known that mobile computing has sky rocketed, the fact that law inforcement just brushed these details off to rush in on the hopes of nabbing a suspect no matter what he did is flat out wrong.
I do beleave that those who broke the law should be punished, but I also beleave in protecting the innocence and rights of the people around us. If the wrong person was arrested, and all it took was a little digging to find the right person an investigation of the department should be carried out from top to bottom.
No one innocent should have law inforcement braking down there door, especialy since cops never brake down doors for anything lightly. mistakes like this can not be forgotten and should be a massive mark of shame for all those involved.
although our law inforcement strives to protect us, and for the most part do well at the task, they do diserve praises for all there hard work. The mistakes we make should never be forgotten... otherwheise how are we going to improve?
