Man Pleads Guilty Selling Fake Chips to Navy

140000/13000=10.76 a chip. Sounds like a steal to me anyway you slice it.

Why does the Navy not buy direct from the manufacturer, what is the fascination we have with middle-men?

These weren't parts for the space shuttle they are current chips, buy direct.

The Navy was asking for this kind of crap by not buying from the manufacturer.

It does seem very lenient, when some thing like national securaty is put at fisk for the sake of raking in a few thouhsand dollars.
It also beggers belife that it took the navy QM sot to realise the stock in the stores wasnt fit for purpose! I tought only our British forces done that!

It said the navy caught it but didn't say that how long. It looks like they caught it right away before it even got in their supply chain, you would have seen that if you read the article.

As for the other places that got duped I dunno shit happens, they got the guys thats all that matters.

Well...they get the first bad shipment, but they need to build a rock-solid case against them, so they check to see how deep the rabbit hole goes before they bring them up on charges.

As for the danger, harm and complications they have caused all the while thinking they would get away with it and didn't give a shit about the danger they could be putting in the lives of our soldiers - 20 years minimum.

This doesn't surprise me one bit, and yet I'm also not surprised reading some of the other comments on how something like this happens. People want to know why the Navy can't go right to the manufacturer? Law...that's why. The Federal Acquisition Regulations have been revised in such a way as to prevent buying the cheapest good. This was supposed to result in better quality, especially when the military was forced to stop making proprietary technology and use commercial goods if at all possible. The result? Certain left-leaning political entities turned it into the military having to support small business at the expense of cheaper costs. In fact minority, women-owned, veteran-owned, HUBZONE, etc. etc. all get priority. What happens? Abuse. Small businesses will do whatever it takes now to get one of those classifications to be more competitive. They can then overcharge because if the gov't denies them or they feel "discriminated" against because the Navy doesn't buy from them...a legal battle ensues. As usual...lawyers ultimately win...and taxpayers lose. I love how people hate big business so much, but when they see the gov't having to pay more, they are all for them going to big business in the hope of lowering taxes and the budget. Make up your minds!

It is not the Sailors making this discussion it is some civilian behind a desk making this discussion take it from me with over 20 years on submarines we are still 5 to 20 years behind the real world as goes technology so this is appalling.
