140000/13000=10.76 a chip. Sounds like a steal to me anyway you slice it.

Why does the Navy not buy direct from the manufacturer, what is the fascination we have with middle-men?

These weren't parts for the space shuttle they are current chips, buy direct.

The Navy was asking for this kind of crap by not buying from the manufacturer.

"Their portfolio of counterfeited chips included fake versions of Intel, Fujitsu, Analog Devices, VIA, and National Semiconductor."

Does Intel, Fujitsu, or any of these other companies make potato chips? Seriously people, so many people comment on the author(s) of this page making a typo error, but when there is something like this, you cannot figure out that they are talking about computer chips? Wow.

It does seem very lenient, when some thing like national securaty is put at fisk for the sake of raking in a few thouhsand dollars.
It also beggers belife that it took the navy QM sot to realise the stock in the stores wasnt fit for purpose! I tought only our British forces done that!

[citation][nom]je5us[/nom]and it took two years for the navy to figuire it out? i can deal with stupid individuals, but i start to worry when it involves the military being stupid[/citation]

It said the navy caught it but didn't say that how long. It looks like they caught it right away before it even got in their supply chain, you would have seen that if you read the article.

As for the other places that got duped I dunno shit happens, they got the guys thats all that matters.

put the assholes in jail where they belong.it would be a shame to find out one of our servicemen died or were injured because of low lifes like these fools.

Yea, I thought it was potato chips too until waaay at the end. Although I get asking myself how plastic potato chips got sold without someone tasting one, lol

Well...they get the first bad shipment, but they need to build a rock-solid case against them, so they check to see how deep the rabbit hole goes before they bring them up on charges.

[citation][nom]7amood[/nom]POTATO CHIPS!!!!!!!!!! i thought they were electronic chips >_[/citation]
That might have something to do with the fact that this is an electronics sight. lol

Yep, I thought it was potato chips too. Funny shit right here. Anywho... I give slight "balls kudos" to the douchebags who pulled it off. As for the danger, harm and complications they have caused all the while thinking they would get away with it and didn't give a shit about the danger they could be putting in the lives of our soldiers - 20 years minimum.

This doesn't surprise me one bit, and yet I'm also not surprised reading some of the other comments on how something like this happens. People want to know why the Navy can't go right to the manufacturer? Law...that's why. The Federal Acquisition Regulations have been revised in such a way as to prevent buying the cheapest good. This was supposed to result in better quality, especially when the military was forced to stop making proprietary technology and use commercial goods if at all possible. The result? Certain left-leaning political entities turned it into the military having to support small business at the expense of cheaper costs. In fact minority, women-owned, veteran-owned, HUBZONE, etc. etc. all get priority. What happens? Abuse. Small businesses will do whatever it takes now to get one of those classifications to be more competitive. They can then overcharge because if the gov't denies them or they feel "discriminated" against because the Navy doesn't buy from them...a legal battle ensues. As usual...lawyers ultimately win...and taxpayers lose. I love how people hate big business so much, but when they see the gov't having to pay more, they are all for them going to big business in the hope of lowering taxes and the budget. Make up your minds!

Serves him right with the fines but 51 months seams a little to easy but serves a point. Now for wall street and the federal reserve for all the fake gold.

Well they certainly are the most unpatriotic bunch we've seen a while...

But let's look at the situation overall. If the Navy couldn't strike a direct deal with intel and company for those chips at those prices... why/how did they think middle men would be able to do so? Hmm...

[citation][nom]mrmez[/nom]One has to wonder about a navy, stupid enough to buy thousands of counterfeit chips...[/citation]
It is not the Sailors making this discussion it is some civilian behind a desk making this discussion take it from me with over 20 years on submarines we are still 5 to 20 years behind the real world as goes technology so this is appalling.

thats kool he plead guilty to help his wife, that realy is a decent break atleast for her. as to the rest of the story, are these potato chip[s or computer chips? im uessing computer but wow thats silly dont you think millitary would notice the rash of malfunctions and contact the stated manufacter of the chip. lol
