Stupid smoked up father, babies aren't supposed to sleep in beds anyway. It's too dangerous even if nobody is gonna sleep in the same bed. That's why they invented cribs.

The title is not misleading it is an out right lie. Special K here wrote it to stir the pot. He obviously has no other story to bring to us. He probably googled game+death found this story and made up the title.

Good job Special K, you win a fail.

Too many of you are focusing on the pot usage, when the article clearly states he smoked a little earlier in the day. His exhaustion was due to lack of sleep pulling an all-nighter. The relevancy here is his bad judgment of placing his child in the same bed. Further adding insult to injury, he didn't at the very least, place a pillow partition, not only to protect the child from rolling over on to him but also so the child wouldn't roll out of bed. It was a tragic accident and in of itself should be treated as crime, but his attempts to cover it up should.

This really has nothing to do with gaming, or smoking pot. No, the guy should not have tried to hide the truth, however, absolutely anyone could sleep with their child in a queen-sized bed, and roll over on top of the child. Anyone! In this case, though, it likely did not help that he had had little sleep.

Still, those who are not sleep starved and heavy sleepers could have had this happen to them, too.

I think law enforcement is abusive in this case in charging this guy with aggravated manslaughter. I hope for his sake that he has a good lawyer.

[citation][nom]jakesbuddy[/nom]"Man Suffocates Baby Over Gaming Marathon" Your title implies that the man made a conscious decision to kill a baby as a direct result of being part of a gaming marathon. It is misleading and irresponsible to post these kinds of headlines. It seems the headlines are always skewed in order to blame the game itself...If he had stayed up all night watching movies, would your headline have been "Man Suffocates Baby Over Movie Marathon"?[/citation]
I have to agree with this, and this is what drew me to this article.

A more concisely worded title would have been "Man Suffocates Baby After Gaming Marathon"

IMHO, that was an unfortunate choice of words, but in the advertiser's eyes, it draws people to read articles that are ill-titled.

Correction: protect the child from being rolling over on to, but also so the child wouldn't roll out of bed. It was a tragic accident and in of itself should not be treated as crime, but his attempts to cover it up should.

I'm sorry but chronic-chronic smokers do seem to get themselves into some ridiculous situations. I've done some crazy shit all boozed up but nothing compares to some of the just, weird things I've seen people do when they are blazed from some dank. Seems like the access to medicinal MJ doesn't help the situation either. I'm 26 and the stuff we had ten years ago wasn't the same.

[citation][nom]tester24[/nom]Feel bad for the mother and family, mainly for having a stupid father. As many have said you NEVER EVER sleep in the same bed as your infant. I do like how Kevin even states that the video games are not at fault, and definately video game advocates will be all over this. Too bad not to many drug advocates will be all over this.Hate to say it but this would make a great anti-marijuana ad.[/citation]
I have to disagree with this. I have 3 kids, all of them slept in the bed with their mother and I until they stopped nursing. We have never rolled over on any of them. I may have laid an arm over them once or twice but they always squirmed or made a noise and I just moved it. The medical community has shunned co-sleeping because of idiots like the one in this article. If you are irresponsible or drunk or high, then you can pass out on top of a baby and not realize it. There is no way I could crush my baby without knowing it.
Now, on the flip side, there is research (I don't have sources) that claims co-sleeping can prevent S.I.D.S. Some doctors believe that SIDS might be caused by the infant's inability to regulate it's breathing shortly after birth and sleeping next to an adult can help it get it's breathing rhythm. Another advantage is if the infant is right next to you, you will hear any irregularities in it's breathing or if it is choking on something. Just yesterday, my 4-month-old covered her own face with a blanket in her crib and could have suffocated if I didn't happen to see it. (this was during a daytime nap). If she were in the bed with me, this would not have happened.
Now, keep in mind that you don't want to try and put 2 adults and 1 child in a twin bed. There just isn't room. We had a Queen bed with the first 2 kids and have moved up to a King for the most recent one. Also, it might not be a good idea if both you and your spouse (notice I didn't say girlfriend) are 300 lbs overweight or have a sleeping disorder.

and you know what the worst part of this whole article is???? now we will never know if that baby can play crysis or not!!!!!!!!

Lots of people go to sleep next to their baby.. this is just as unfortunate as when someone who doesn't smoke pot or play video games does the same thing. It's sad but it happens.

Yet another argument for licensing parenthood.
Too bad mankind has proven itself too corruptible to implement a good, fair, eugenics program.

This happes a lot. The drugs certainly didn't help, but I don't see what the gaming had to do with it... It's very important that small babies sleep in their own beds and never with the parents.

He wasn't stoned when he feed the baby and such. But still should have put her in the crib. It was an accident and he will live with that for the rest of his life.

I've known a friend who did that to a kitten. An accident. Some people are heavy sleepers.

yeah......why do they even bring up the weed? its completely irrelevant. it says that he smoked mid evening and played until 6AM. now, i dont know how many of you have smoked but when you smoke you dont stay high for over 6 hours....4 hours tops. and he even woke up, fed her and then went back to bed. he was completely sober when he went back to sleep.

this is actually somewhat common and is very tragic, but the story tries to spin it as him smoking weed is to blame and thats not true.

many sober parents sleep with their kids at a young age, so i dont know what they're getting at with the whole smoking weed 6-12 hours prior to falling asleep with their kid in the same bed, an act that many sober parents do.

so yeah. my 2 cents.

According to the original article, the guy SMOKED POT OUTSIDE THE AFTERNOON BEFORE, it never said he smoked any more after that. The effects of marijuana last 3-4 hours max, IF THE ARTICLE HAS THE STORY RIGHT, THEN THERE IS NO WAY SMOKING POT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS CHILD'S DEATH.

SOUNDS LIKE REEFER MADNESS SCARE TACTICS AND LIKE THE AUTHOR DOESN'T LIKE VIDEO GAMES TO ME!

THE VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE THAT USE MARIJUANA ARE RESPONSIBLE AND MANAGE TO RAISE THEIR KIDS JUST FINE. IF THEY DIDN'T, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ABVIOUS LONG AGO!

BLAMING VIDEO GAMES OR MARIJUANA IS RIDICULOUS, THIS WAS AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT, ITS BEEN HAPPENING FOREVER. SLEEPING IN THE SAME BED WITH AN INFANT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME.

END THE MADNESS, CHANGE THE DRUG LAWS!

This is only to clear up some of the misconceptions about marijuana stated in response to this article. First as to toxic psychosis it is defined medically as follows, Toxic psychosis: a psychosis caused by some toxic substance, whether endogenous or exogenous.
Source: Stedman's Medical Spellchecker, © 2006 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. All rights reserved. Marijuana has one of the highest therapeutic indexes of any drug meaning the ratio between the effective dose and the lethal dose. It is 20,000:1 meaning that someone would have to smoke many thousand joints to suffer any toxicity, sorry no toxic psychosis buddy. As to withdrawals causing violence the only known physical withdrawal symptom is an increase in REM sleep witch causes more fitful sleeping. No one can say with any certainty what effects marijuana does have on the body and brain because cannabinoid receptors are found to be of two types CB1 and CB2 and are found in a variety of places throughout the body. The fact is marijuana is perhaps the most complex drug in terms of psychophamacology and falls somewhere between stimulant depressant and hallucinogen. To me it seems dangerous to put something in your body that so little is known about. However what is not is not all that terrible extensive longitudinal studies at UCLA have found no statistical difference in life expectancies of cannabis users and a control population when controlling for other drug use and neighborhood. The loss of short term memory and fertility are both currently seen to be temporary and minor. Sorry I am just extremely frustrated by all the misconceptions about drugs (and the horrible waste of money and laws caused by such misconceptions), too much information on this topic comes from extremest groups, do some research.

Anybody that blames the weed in this article is an idiot. THATS RIGHT YOU'RE THE IDIOT! Do you know if he was a heavy sleeper to begin with? No! He may very well have been, and thus the weed would've had very little effect either way.

This should be an article on why "NOT TO SLEEP WITH YOUR BABY IN THE SAME BED!" Not a weed article, not a gaming article.. As neither of those had a direct result, and it still could easily happen without both of those.

There's only two idiot things this guy did. First off if he knew he was a heavy sleeper he should've had put the baby in the crib, and most people know what type of sleepers they are. As their usually told by family, friends, or roomates.

Second thing he did.. That I hope he does do time for is he tried to cover it up.

Just cause something is illegal doesn't mean it should be a crime. It just is cause some idiots that don't know shit thought it should be. Just like some things that are legal shouldn't be, but the same idiots don't know any better or their getting paid off to keep it legal.

But either way that's a different argument and really shouldn't apply to this story.

[citation][nom]superoxide[/nom]Not my fault if your sister dated a dumbass and your biased towards cannabis users because of that. Emotion makes your thoughts irrational; ever heard of the scientific method moron?[/citation]
Based on that method, I'd say your emotional response supports my hypothesis. Thank you.
