[citation][nom]tester24[/nom]Feel bad for the mother and family, mainly for having a stupid father. As many have said you NEVER EVER sleep in the same bed as your infant. I do like how Kevin even states that the video games are not at fault, and definately video game advocates will be all over this. Too bad not to many drug advocates will be all over this.Hate to say it but this would make a great anti-marijuana ad.[/citation]
I have to disagree with this. I have 3 kids, all of them slept in the bed with their mother and I until they stopped nursing. We have never rolled over on any of them. I may have laid an arm over them once or twice but they always squirmed or made a noise and I just moved it. The medical community has shunned co-sleeping because of idiots like the one in this article. If you are irresponsible or drunk or high, then you can pass out on top of a baby and not realize it. There is no way I could crush my baby without knowing it.
Now, on the flip side, there is research (I don't have sources) that claims co-sleeping can prevent S.I.D.S. Some doctors believe that SIDS might be caused by the infant's inability to regulate it's breathing shortly after birth and sleeping next to an adult can help it get it's breathing rhythm. Another advantage is if the infant is right next to you, you will hear any irregularities in it's breathing or if it is choking on something. Just yesterday, my 4-month-old covered her own face with a blanket in her crib and could have suffocated if I didn't happen to see it. (this was during a daytime nap). If she were in the bed with me, this would not have happened.
Now, keep in mind that you don't want to try and put 2 adults and 1 child in a twin bed. There just isn't room. We had a Queen bed with the first 2 kids and have moved up to a King for the most recent one. Also, it might not be a good idea if both you and your spouse (notice I didn't say girlfriend) are 300 lbs overweight or have a sleeping disorder.
