Memory card empty (?)

I connect my digital camera to the internal card reader in my PC with a USB cable.

I then insert a memory card into my camera and turn on the camera.

Window Explorer displays:

,,,Computer

..........Canon PowerShot G16

................Removable Storage

But it doesn't display the drive letter and it doesn't list any files.

When I click on 'Canon PowerShot G16', it displays 'Removable Storage" with 'Space Used' with a red bar, 'Total Size: 0 bytes'. 'Space Free: 0 bytes' and 'DCF'.

Is the memory card empty or does it contain any files or is it corrupted/damaged?

You should always use a dedicated card reader for compatibility and performance reasons.

Most likely your media import settings are not properly configured, but you will need to see your manual about that.
