Mic is set to default (in-built) even if i have a headset attached

i have a lenovo z5070 that uses a conexant sound card
i have a steelseries siberia v2 that has a mic
i use an adapter for the 2 pins of my headset cuz my lappy has only one port
but it seems like whenever i plug that in the sound comes through the headphone but the laptop always uses the conexant smart audio HD thingy as the default mic
need help to change that to the steelseries mic

It sounds like that 'one' 3.5mm port on your laptop isn't a dual one. (input/output) Sadly it is very common for manufacturers to only put in an output one. Leaving microphones not working with that port.

There would be two ways around it. 1. Get an USB to 3.5mm adapter and connect your headset that way. or 2. Get a headset that comes with a USB rather than a 3.5mm jack.
