Mobile Intel 940GML Express Chipset and Core 2 Duo processors?

I'd like to upgrade my Acer Aspire 3690-2023 laptop. It has this Intel 940 chipset, so is it compatible with Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile CPUs? (Socket M). I'd like to replace the stock CPU with a Core 2 Duo Mobile T 7600. Also, does my chipset support PC2-5200 DDR2-667 MHz and I'm stuck with PC2-4200 DDR2-533 MHz? Intel has tons of info and support for newer mobile chipsets such as the 945GM, but the quality of information on the 940GML is atrocious. This community is my only hope, so please help me...

Chances are that you will not be able to upgrade from a Celeron M (that's what it has, correct?) to a Core 2 Duo. If I recall, I do not think the current chipset you have will support a c2d, plus there are different power requirements for the c2d.

I just found out that I can in fact, replace the crappy Celeron M with any Intel socket M CPU--as long as it is 533 MHz Bus. So the T7600 is out. I have to choose something like the older Core Solo, Core Duo or earlier Core 2 Duo. My best option is the Core 2 Duo T5300 1733 MHz 2mb cache. Power requirement is actually less. I read on a laptop board that a member was able to extend his battery life by just swapping the Celeron M for a C2D, his laptop is the same model as mine.

Any word on whether or not this is true? I have an acer aspire 3690-2672 with either an i943 or an i940, but I'm pretty sure I have i940. I have been looking all over the Internet and I have never read a straight answer whether this is true.

I no longer have that laptop. The only store near me that had an old Core 2 Duo CPU was charging way too much for it because it was very rare (he also said it would be too difficult to make the swapping and bla bla), so I just bought a brand new laptop.

The acer aspire 3690 has been my computer for the past 4 years now (Freshmen to Senior year) and I've had little to no problems with it and it has served all my functions pretty well. I was looking at spending maybe 40-60$ to add new life to it for college. The thing is right now I can't really afford to buy something that won't work or could screw up my computer costing me even more $$$, as I do need a computer. It's for those reason I'm just a little apprehensive about jumping the gun on upgrading to a new processor before I know it will work.

I have a asus a8h here that has the 940gml chipset. It came with core duo T2050 @1.6ghz 533fsb 2mb cache and i upgrade to core 2 duo t5500 @1.66ghz. 667fsb 2mb cache. I run 2 gig ram. 1 card is pc2-4300 (266fsb) and the other is pc2-5300 (333mhz) both run at the slower speed. The extra ram and and 5400rpm 500gb hard drive greatly improved performance. for day to day use.
