It's very understandable. There are some people (younger people) who have a hard time differentiating "Video game bad guys in x form" from "I am actually "killing" civilians."

When I play a game, and as lots of my friends feel, you don't actually "feel" like you're killing something legit. There's a schizm in the brain. You're killing "bad guys" or shooting "Scene objects" not shooting up police and smacking grannies (GTA). Just like in MW2, you don't feel like you're killing civilians, they're just members of an environment in a video game tableau. While, when immersed in a story, you can feel for the civilians, relate to them, etc, there's always that schizm, that "video game background elements that must be preserved" as opposed to the "don't shoot real people" aspect.

There is currently preliminary research that shows we play games with a different part of our brain than what we use to interact with real life. It's when those get crossed due, mostly, to mental handicap, addiction, or the like that people "wile out" and do negative things.

This is really just protectionism and sensoring, but in a cute little package.

People have always committed violent acts. In the past we as humans were even more violent... Hmm Public hangings, Crucifixion, blah blah blah. Were used to cut people's heads off and stick them on poles for heavens sake.

And how you, gamers will be feel, if in this scene is need to killing americans (incl. childs and they moms) instead russians??

That was just Vlad the Impaler though. But we were a lot more violent in the past but the only real reason for that was the lack of sophisticated execution techniques. I would have to say while it is more bloody, beheading via Guillotine is a more humane death than by electrocution.

What part of "Grand Theft Auto" do you not understand.

Its a game. A GAME. Do politicians swat at people's hands when they play Stratego, or give them lectures on fiscal discipline when playing Monopoly?

The first time I played the level, I didn't know if I should open fire. Halfway through I went ahead and chucked out some lead. But on my second play through (when I did the game on Veteran), I just skipped it (the level was slow and pointless).

Do we censor movies that have scenes where civilians die (there are several movies where acts of terror result in civilian deaths, right on screen). Do we tell people playing paint ball that they are murders in making? What about air-soft?

Oh, and think Grand Theft Auto. Ever since the game debuted in the mid 90s, you can run down civilians wholesale. You can chuck molotavs at them, you can get the FBI gunning for you and slaughter THEM.

Hasn't led to someone going postal yet has it? Because ITS. A. GAME.

Thats where you are wrong. There have actually been several cases of young teenagers that played the game obsessively going out and committing extremely heinous acts. Afterwards they cite the game as their inspiration.

I've played games where Americans die before, think Command and Conquer: Red Alert series or Command and Conquer: Generals. I used to play as the Chinese in Generals all the time (mmmm tank rush). In Red Alert 2: Yuri's revenge I only played as Yuri and slaughtered American player's forces wholesale (or enslaved them).

See my two previous posts: game. Not reality. And besides, nikolovtwo, have you ever been to Sheremetyevo International Airport? The lines, they need pruned (otherwise you might be born, live a long life, and die all in the same line there).

Name them, then prove is a blight on society and that these teenagers weren't the kind of disturbed adolescents that would've gone ballistic anyway. Kids have been killing each other long before Columbine, I assure you.

Ordinarily I don't comment on these, but I'll offer my 2c this time. The level disturbed me frankly. Yes, they are mindless digital sprites, and yes, I waved the skip option, but this level outlines the reason I do not play GTA. I don't support game bans, and I only support "reasonable" censorship. I support your right as a free willed person to do as you please, but moving to the reason I'm posting, keep it in the game. People are stupid. 6k people can play "No Russian," and keep it in the game, but there is that chance there is one idiot who want's to make it real. I'm not bothered to the point of anger. I don't think Infinity Ward was inappropriate. I just think of Mumbai when stuff like this happens.

It's a game... I played it.. shot everythign that moved.. and looked forward to the cus scenes..

I guess some people aren't smart enough to know the difference and some governments don't want to take that chance. Wans't it in Japan where some guy married his DS girlfriend?

Volkswagon = Government car?
Wow, I thought it meant:
Peoples car
Never mind it's all Bushes fault!

First felt bad shooting people then thought rationally and who was I hurting. Then shot as many as I could because it is a game... I can see how your first instinct is that it is wrong and agree as long has kids don't play it who are easly infuenced then any adult should have a right to play it.

you know its a freaking video game i mean would u ask yourself this why do u kill cops and civilions in gta same reason its a game get over yourselves people

So if a game put a player in a position to rape a little girl, it's okay "because it's just a game?" Also, GTA4 gives the player the option to run civilians down, but it's not the central significance of the game. The Russian mission, uncensored, puts the player in a position to be a cold blooded, sadistic murderer. There comes a time when games go too far.
