moto g5 factory reset stuck

Had an issue with an app on my moto g5 this morning so turned it off and back on again and thats where the problems started....It was stuck on the motorola boot page so I tried several different attempts to solve this which failed so I tried a factory reset , followed online instructions but now I get a black screen with a cricle saying erasing that lasts abt 2 seconds it then switches back to motorola boot page for a minute its been doing this continuously for over an hour. Phone is charging as I have no idea how the battery is , thinking of trying to do another reset otherwise I'm stuck.....Any suggestions please... thank you
