i cant decide when is better. i don't care for the blue ray player but the ssd and being a hundred less is nice. while the msi gt70 is lighter it has a back light keyboard.

does anyone know why i shouldn't get one of theswe laptops. any cooling problems are there driver problems?

That's how it looks. The only thing I will talk about, that separates MSI from ASUS for many people, is cooling. ASUS uses a dual fan cooling system. This keeps temps great, however, for some odd reason, CPU temps on ASUS reach 100c, even with cooling pad and thermal paste. GPU temps stay at 75c, but no matter what, temps always reach 100c when it comes to CPU on ASUS. When the CPU throttles, it causes a major performance hit on your system, through gaming and rendering.

MSI uses a single cooling solution. However, this means the GPU reaches 93c. The CPU temps stay at a solid 80c after repasting, but the GPU stays at 93c, with repasting AND cooling pad. However, what makes MSI better at cooling, is that even when the GPU hits 93c, it throttles so little that there is no difference to little difference in FPS hits. Unlike when a CPU throttles, which SUCKS, a GPU throttle doesn't really do anything. Therefore, in my opinion, MSI wins at cooling.

So, what makes ASUS better in some situations, is better build quality and design. However, design doesn't really matter, as MSI has all the bells and whistles, and MSI already has great build quality, so who cares? MSI comes out a victor. Not even that, but I am a FORMER ASUS user, for those who think I'm an MSI fanboy. After trying my first MSI notebook, I'm not going back

Now, one last thing, ports. The only point to where ASUS wins at port options is Thunderbolt. However, MSI has an insane amount of ports! I won't bother telling you all, but just know there are a ton of options. And Matrix Display!

thanks for the info i wished i got a e mail about your post before i ordered. i went with the asus since it was on sale and 130 cheaper with the same specs . Though you listed msi as having a sub woofer, however this range of asus laptops also has a sub woofer or do you mean the msi just has better sound over all?. you wouldn't also be able to recommend a backpack for the rog? all the packs i want are too small such as the pelican. Pelican only seems to make laptop bag for ultra books or one inch think pcs. id really want something that offers waterproofing or water resistance and heavy padding. I will be riding a motor cycle .

Let me add on to what I said. You made an amazing choice going with ASUS. You will not be disappointed. But yes, answering your question, the ASUS does have a subwoofer. But, ASUS has mediocre quality speakers at best. MSI sound quality is incredible. Super crisp and vibrant, amazing bass, perfect for any gamer, musician, etc. You can't beat the sound system. Period.

However, let me edit my post. A few days ago, my friend Matt had received the ASUS G750JM DS71. The ASUS I was describing was my g75jx, the old model. Yesterday, I got my hands on it when I was at his house. Let me reconsider some things that'll make you happy with your purchase:

Yep. Very different from my original post. This new g750 series is amazing. Originally, I said MSI had better keyboard. I was wrong. The ASUS keyboard is super comfortable, very wells designed, and BIG. Not only that, the backlighting on the ASUS keyboard is very professional, and unlike the MSI keyboard, it doesn't hurt your eyes as it is a very nice white color.

Next. Quality is amazing. Beats MSI, but still, MSI has good quality too. But this quality is phenomenal.

Next. Better design. The design is an awesome mix between f-22 stealth fighter and Lamborghini. Like said previously, design doesn't matter, but on this particular product, the balance between quality and design is outstanding.

Again, next. Better cooling. I was wrong about cooling. In my old model, cooling was bad. My friend Matt ran tests, on both CPU and GPU, and the highest CPU temp he got was 88c. The highest GPU temp, was, get ready for this, 75c! The cooling is incredible. Everything added onto this newer model is outstanding. You will be very happy with your choice. One more plus. Average battery life while doing web browsing and tiny tasks is 5 hours, which is incredible. It can push any game 60+ FPS, too, depending on which model you get. Again, you will be every happy.

(P.S.- Even the base model [lowest spec model] can push every game except for the very demanding games on ultra. Demanding games can be ran at 45+ FPS on high settings at 1080p, and if you get the highest model, performance is increased 50%, meaning every game can be run at 45+ FPS on ultra! Also, all models make great workstations, if that's what you need)

Because of the improvements on this machine, I myself have ordered the ASUS G750JM DS71, with the GTX 860M graphics card. Can't wait for it! Bought it at $1200, $200 off, coming in tomorrow using Amazon Prime 😀

So, be glad you made the choice. I'm glad I'm getting this laptop. It's an outstanding machine. Just don't expect top quality sound. That's the only con. And, if you care about weight, then weight is also a con, but it's not that heavy. And if you have headphones plugged in, sound shouldn't be an issue either.

Now, about the backpack. What is your budget? I've found two backpacks, both of which I own. Each one is amazing, and don't fall apart at first sign of stress. The first one is $40, and for the price, it blows everything out of the water (hint, water). Here it is:

I paid 1299 for my laptop and the model is G750JS-TS71. I ordered my through tiger direct. if need be il pay 200 for the best protection for my laptop. i really wanted the pelican brand but they only fit latops up to a inch thick. let me know how much room is in the nomad. i will need to fit at lest two large text books at a time. I ride a motor cycle as much as possible so i need lots of room and the nomad seems small. has to be a backpack

Nomad is PERFECT. It is literally designed for G750 series. Not only that, it is huge, and can hold lots of items apart from your notebook at once. It's a backpack, so that's good. Again, very roomy, even with the laptop inside. It also matches the ROG badge logo.

The JS? Great choice! Keep in mind, it may run about 5c higher than JM, and fan noise is considerable. That's because 860M, in the JM, is Maxwell, and runs cooler. But it still shouldn't be a problem!

Hey I reset my router and my computer hooked up to the 2.4 ran a test then conected to the 5ghz and i got over 10-15 mbps!!!!!!! i dont know why and i cant say i really care. I am going to order a AC laptop adapter this time to see if i can get the same high speeds on my old laptop that i game my sister since its a year old that im getting on my g750!!!
for some reason on the g750 I get high speeds on both 2.4 and 5ghz, but on my desktop i get 3 times the speed on 5ghz than 2.4
I dont know about buffering with the 870m but the speeds arnt a illusion. im seeing these speeds for my download my web pages and even in my games.

also nothing has changed with my desktop but the new dual band wireless card i may have a ssd and a i7 in it but i think that some how the cards are going around the throttling servers by them selves. sudden link could provide the area with more than 6 mbps but they dont have to be cause they are the only cable internet provider in the area

lols its all good man. i still haven't decided on a back pack. micro center stocks the nomad pack and il go up there and check it out soon. I Really want a nice water proof backpack in case i get stuck out in the rain on my motorcycle, and then i wouldn't have to worry.

The laptop is amazing. its my main media center for videos since on my tv everything looks so much better than my main rig. And with the download speed several times faster i use it for all my large file downloads. I have no regrets except that this laptop caused me to pull mussel when i tried to put in behind me in the back set with one hand.

I don't think anybody has an internet faster than his HDD can write

this laptop doesnt come close to the power of my main rig. It having a full i7 4770k and all. for some reason at first i was getting 10 mbps when i switched to a dual band card and used the 5ghz band but on my laptop either band will get me 12+ mbps
