Hi everybody!

I'm about buying a new gaming laptop, and my main concern is the brand.. I've made a little investigation and finally found two specious rigs:

1. ASUS G551JM - i7-4710HQ, GTX 860M 4 GB GDDR5, 8 GB DDR 3 RAM, 15,6", costs $ 1300

2. MSI GT70 2PE Dominator Pro - i7-4700HQ, GTX 880M 4 GB GDDR5, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 17,3" costs $ 1650

I admit that the MSI one is superior in performance (that GTX 880 would be so wonderful), but I've heard several rumors that it has weak quality compared to ASUS (poor materials, heating problems, and so on). So the ASUS machine might be more durable. Is that true? I haven't checked for more powerful ASUS rigs, because they are far more expensive than the MSI rigs (maybe that why they have poor quality, if it's true) and this MSI one has the maximum price which I can afford.
So guys, the question is: if you were me, which power plant would you buy??

Many thanks in advance for your help!

i say go with the asus one ..you wont see much difference in performance .. you will probably get a 10 to 15 fps gain with 880 over the 860 ... not sure about the heating part but i do know that asus generally has nice cooling systems so that is why i recommend it over the stronger msi one .. its slightly slower but less likely to attract heat and get busted

What would you recommend for under $1700? I can't seem to get an accurate reading on gaming laptops since the reviews are all over the spectrum.. Thank you for your help BTW!

That's only 50 over 1700.

ASUS ROG G751JT-CH71 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) Is 1500. The previous one is worth the extra money imo, for the bigger screen and 256gb SSD. That will affect performance dramatically.

I've found it on a Hungarian webshop, exactly here http://www.digiprime.hu/laptop/asus-laptop/asus-g750-ar/asus-g750jz-14743-elado
When I bought it, it was 410 000 HUF (converted to USD at that exchange rate it was about $1780), much cheaper than now... It's suprising tho... Oh and it was also in a discount! So I haven't regretted buying it yet! :wahoo:

Definitely not Lenovo . Been using Lenovo Y50 for almost an year now and its constantly giving me troubles with constant disconnects from wifi due to faulty network adaptor . The HDD was dying within the first month so had to replace it with Seagate . Now , the screen is giving me problems giving green hue all over the display . I will never buy laptops from Lenovo !

I've owned an Asus G750JW since 2013 when they were first released. I haven't had any issues with it at all. Asus is a great and especially reliable brand. I'm waiting for them to release a laptop whose parts like the gpu and graphics card can be switched out and the I'm upgrading.

"find it funny how people throw around '10-15fps' like its nothing. People overclock their GPUs for a mere 5fps FFS!

I agree . I actually had a physical reaction and jerked back when I read 10-15 fps was negligible and wondered in what gaming universe was this true.
But despite the added muscle of MSI I'd go with Asus. I've known them from way back when all they sold were motherboards .
Their quality does not waver.

I know this is solved and done but I wanted to put my 2 cents in. I think MSI is better than Asus and in terms of overall satisfaction MSI won the readers choice award. The MSI cooler boost 4 is amazing it will drop my temp 15°-20° in seconds. I only have the GL62 6QF (i5 6300hq, 8gb DDR4 RAM, GTX 960m, 1tb HDD) but I added a 512gb m.2 Samsung 950 NVMe PCIe-SSD and wow it's fast. Oh btw upgrading the RAM and or PCIe-SSD does not void the warranty 2 reps told me that on 2 separate occasions. I think the build quality if my MSI is better than my wife's Asus and the higher end models are even better. I use my laptop for audio production on the go and for live shows and it doesn't break a sweat. I even game a little and every game I've tried plays looks great. But hey we all have our own likes and preferences.
