My B and N (aNd appareNtly my caps lock key...) refuse to work By themselves.

As the title says, my B, N and caps lock keys refuse to work on my laptop keyboard unless accompanied By another key, Be it the shift key, space Bar, windows Button or ctrl or any other letters. They were working perfectly fine earlier today (actually, looking at the time, yesterday afternoon) But suddenly decided they No longer wished to comply. The n key seems to Be accepting a few of the single attempts at pressing it as I right this message, But it still tempermental.

Any thoughts on what's going on?

Ah, I thought I mentioned in the original post. It's a laptop. I'll get that updated.

Oops ... my bad.

I use my work notebook in the closed position at home ... I have a spare monitor, and a usb wireless mouse and keyboard for it.

The wireless keboard is the little black model from Microsoft (The Arc).

You can easily replace the keyboard on a laptop ... it is in fact pretty easy to do.

What make and model is that one?

Finding a new keyboard may prove challening... it's a custom built laptop from PC Specialist, one they no longer make. It's a four year old Enigma II.

I may just hook it up to my TV and purchase a wireless keyboard if I can't get this one fixed :\

But fire away if you think you can find one.

I suggest asking them via their facebook page for a price on a replacement keyboard.

There is little on the forums other than a few threads on bios flashing to F09.

There does not seem to be any recourse to service / downloads / parts ?

A couple of early models I looked at seemed like Clevo models rebadged / finished.

So the idea of changing the bios so it does not shutdown when you close the top, and getting an external KB / Mouse /Monitor is prolly the way to go.

I sit the monitor on the laptop closed and use wireless mouse / KB for it when home.

Works fine.

Many times there are keyboard problems because heat causes warping of the keyboard. That is why the keys will function before the computer heats up, and the keys fail after the heat-up. Try loosening the keyboard screws beneath the computer. Pay particular attention to keyboard screws in the middle of the keyboard. Trial and error will let you know how much the screws should be tightened.
