my HP touch pad stopped working

how can I fix this problem I plugged in a usb pointing device and that works fine

Is it disabled? Sometimes there is a hotkey that toggles the touchpad on and off, or a section of the touchpad that will do the same. You can try downloading and installing the driver for it from HPs support page for your model as well.

If it's enabled and not working, even after reloading the driver, it could have kicked the bucket.
