My Samsung RV511 will not take my password

My Samsung RV511 will NOT accept my password, which I know is correct. In desperation, I finally called Microsoft, which is always an awful experience. After 2 hours and being transferred to 6 different ppl, the only answer I got was that I would have to "wipe my files." I am not sure why that would help and I am NOT going to do that. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? I have a desktop, an android, an ipad mini (at work); I am not a techie but not stupid either. Overall, this has been a great little computer.
