My Sony Vaio VPCF136FM starts up fine but shuts down after 2-3 minutes. Please help!

Do you have it plugged in when you are trying to turn it on?
have you ever replaced the battery or is it still the original battery?
does it give any errors or beeps or does it just shut down without warning?
