Hi, I'm new to this. Would like to capture video from 8mm camcorder through s-video. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in a capture card for this purpose?

I'd also like there to be audio capture, is that possible? I don't want to do this separately with the sound card and then have to sync it with the video.

Also, I've looked around on pricewatch, and KWORLD products pop-up everywhere. Anyone have experience with this brand?

Thanks

Seems like I'll be going with KWORLD, but I can't decide between 3 cards.

I'll mostly be backing up 8mm camcorder tapes through s-video, but a tv tuner would be nice. I just don't want to sacrifice the quality of capture by going with the cards with tv tuner. Does anyone know where I can find reviews for these 3 cards, or knows if they all capture at the same quality?

Thanks

Hey, Im doing the exact same thing with my holiday videos. Any cheap TV card should be fine, but you will need a good computer in order to capture good quality video without dropping frames.

One thing I had problems with was that the audio input to my TV card uses a 2.5mm jact and my camcorder uses a phono port, I managed to get a cable the converts phono to 2.5mm however it uses left and right phono channels so I can only get sound on either the left or the right.

So instead I connected the camera to a VCR VIA the AV ports (it uses a mono sound source) and then connected that to the TV card through using the airiel out.

MSI TV@nywhere is a great card for not a whole lot of money. I bought it from Newegg for around 55$. It can capture tv,radio or from an external source (component out or svideo). Mine came with Windvd creator too. It also supports mpeg4 encoding with a chip right on the board.

I dont see where it has any hardware encoder. here is the link.

It shows a decoder on the board not an encoder. Maybe Geek is confused by how they work. I belive this card has a software encoder which slows your computer down.

No clue on the other capture cards but Pinnacle is good also. I have use both companies.

Yeah you're right. Windvd does support mpeg 4 encoding via software. Damn shame tho. I've been looking for a cheap hardware encoder for a while now. The plextor model was the cheapest I could find at $179. Well the card works very well otherwise. A great value for the money.
