Need a video splitter

I recently recorded a tv show marathon on my computer and need a way to spit the 1 avi file into the episodes and remove the commercials. What is the best, preferably free, program to do this?

It really depends on the format the .avi is in.

What I can tell you is NOT to use AVI-Splitter by BRIZ Software. It cuts the video about 8 seconds BEFORE the point that you mark for starting. It's insane. You have to literally place the mark about eight seconds PAST where you want it to split and hope you get close.

8 years later, I sincerely hope the OP is not still messing with this AVI.
