I've seen similar threads...but I still cannot figure this out; can someone please guide me on the best way to attach the following components, I'm just lost. Also...I don't have a remote controller for the Sony surround...can I still setup/configure this system without one? Thank you in advance, any help is appreciated

WIthout the remote for the Sony you will find it hard to use since the TV digital audio output is fixed. That means no remote volume control or the ability to set up the Sony. You can get one on ebay

or get a Logitech Harmony universal remote that is programmed from their online database. Check that they have the codes for the Sony. It will also control your other components.
The TV manual will tell you if and how to turn on the optical audio output. You may need to turn off the TV speakers too,

All the devices connect to the TV, TV optical out goes to the Sony HT system.

The HDMI out is not for connecting devices to it but for output to the TV.
So to be clear...are you saying to:
A) use the "Digital Audio Out" port on my TV to the Sony "Digital In/Optical" port on the surround system
B) connect both the Cable Box/DVR and the PS4 to the TV via HDMI (they both have Digital/Optical ports too fyi)?

Thx but the DVR remote works on the Sony via HDMI #4...I can control both the power and volume

You are lucky that it does but that's not enough to set up the HTS correctly. You should set the volume of each speaker when the test noise is sent to it. There is usually a place to enter the distance that each speaker is from you as well.
That ensures you are hearing each channel at the correct volume and time for accurate surround effects.
