need help connecting old dvd player to new samsung smart HD tv

my dvd player has red white and yellow wires that connect from dvd to tv. I have a smart tv and connecting this wires do not work. is there some kind of adaptor I can get to connect my dvd to smart tv?

Which Samsung model do you own? Many of them come with an adapter that allows you to plug in RCA cables directly.

On many new TVs they combine the component and composite video connections so you have to select which one you want to use in one of the TV menus.
If your TV only has HDMI connections it is probably cheaper to buy a low end Bluray player than to get an adapter for your old DVD. The new player will play all your DVDs.
