Need help fixing page appearance in Microsoft Word 2010

So whenever I open Word 2010 it looks like this:

Under the "View" Tab, put a check box in the "Ruler" field. Then adjust the vertical slider on the left to get the spacing right. Hope this helps!

I am afraid I can't find a slider, although the ruler is there.

Too late. I figured it out. Near the top of the paper, if you double click, it toggles turning white space on or off. Thanks though!
