Need help on video editing software

Hello guys. I am presently running a pc with AMD Athlon 64bit processor with 2gigs of RAM and a nvidia geforce 8400gs graphics card. I am trying out the Sony vegas pro 11 but it lags a hell lot and the final rendered video comes out to be blurred and bandings appear. Please help me out on which software would be best according to my PC configuration.

Video encoding likes fast CPUs, fast HDD, and lot of RAM.
