I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L500. Occasionally the touchpad will stop working, and the 'FN'+'F9' combination will not re-activate it. Help needed. I looked in to re-installing the flash cards but want to see if there is a quicker way first. Thanks.

Solution
Lets try something.

I want to reset the BIOS back to factory default settings. This is a completely harmless process if done correctly and following my directions. In the future, no one should go into the BIO's and edit settings unless they know exactly what they're manipulating. Go ahead and give this a shot:

1. Turn your machine off by going to the start menu and pressing shut down.
2. Remove all wireless mice, USB drives, printers or other attachments from the computer. Also, remove the battery from the machine as well.
3. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds
4. Go ahead and plug your battery back in, as well as the power cord for the computer. Be sure that the power cord is attached at the wall socket.
5. Press the power...
Reinstalling the flash cards? Im not sure what you mean about that exactly.

How do you get it to start working again when it goes out? We need a lot more details about how it happens, when it happens, what you've done to repair it. Somethings like this are usually software related and simply uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the updated driver with software will repair the issue. Let us know some more details and we can try and help you with the problem.

It happens without warning. It just stops working. As far as I remember the toshiba flash cards are the 'F' keys I think. I have tried reinstalling updated drivers but to no luck. I now have to use a USB mouse because the touchpad could go at any second.

5. Press the power button to begin boot process. Press F2 to enter the BIO's Setup menu.
6. Press F9 key to reset to defaults (it should say F9 or another key on the screen to restore BIO's back to default settings. If it is not F9, press whatever corresponding key it is to reset to default settings.)
7. Press F10 to save changes and exit, press yes to complete the process and restart the machine.

This will hopefully restore the defaults to the computer and allow the trackpad to function normally. Please let us know the outcome of this and if it resolves your issue.
