hello, i am advising a friend on a laptop to choose, and it needs to be:
1. very fast, gaming grade
2. atleast 4 gigs of ram, but preferably 6 gigs of fast ram (no 800 MHz)
3. HD display, and the bigger the better
4.really good vid card, atleast a 260
5.has to be cool looking ( :pfff: )
6. under 1800$

this is the best i found:

just wondering if thats a real 360, if it is worth the price, and if there is anything better for the price. he got a free ssd from intel (lucky sob) so he doesnt need one built in. thanks :)

Then I suggest he look at these 2 from Asus:
G72 (Core2Quad, 6gb RAM, GTX 260M, Full HD): http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g72gxa1-p-2722.html?wconfigure=yes

G73 (Core i7, 8gb of RAM, Mobility 5870, Full HD): http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g73jha1-order-p-2731.html?wconfigure=yes

The G73 will be a pre-order since it hasn't been released yet, but the G72 he should be able to get immediately as long as they still have them in stock.

edit: both come standard with dual 500gb HDDs and Blu-ray players.

What do you mean by true? Do you mean is it a Fermi/GT100 based card? No, it's a rebadged GT215 card. Performance should be around what the current GTS 260M is. You'd probably be better off buying one of the Asus G series with an i7 and GTX 260M.

Have him look at this as well: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8690-built-clevo-w860cu-custom-gaming-laptop-p-2659.html

GTS 360M specs: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTS-360M.24058.0.html

Solution

Both Jack and I tried suggesting those earlier and were shot down. To meet the specs he wants they go outside of the price his friend is willing to pay.
