If this is the mic

it won't work at all without 48v. Professional gear (mic preamps and mixers) usually have this built it so you don't need an external power supply unless you don't have gear with it.
I suppose that if the power supply inside of you gear wasn't very quiet it might improve the sound using an external phantom power supply.

Well,this is the mic: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BM800-Sound-Studio-Dynamic-Condenser-Microphone-Shock-Mount-Recording-Kit-/381360993933?var=&hash=item58cae2f68d:m:msLR6w9MkBh1OAPCSOUTPAg
its the same actually. I have it for months. No power, straight in PC. From close talkiing it sounds good, but when I go far,its just..like im not talking. Example,2 meters away. Hardly to hear,if I boost it even. But boosted sounds like crap.
I thought it could pick up my breathing from 10 meters. xD
So if I want that, solution is Phantom power? :D
